Overview

In 2 words ...

Meet the Communities! is a series of events aiming to promote and help people better know in Luxembourg what Open Source is and what are the projects developed under this type of licence.

Objective

The Open Source showed these last years an increasingly large maturity and this evolution was particularly marked these three last years. We thus passed from projects developed the evenings and weekends by a handle of impassioned at monumental software buildings, maintained by a hierarchy project extremely structured and organized well and supported by stable economic models. The Open Source was professionnalisé and become ready for true projects of company. The report that we could carry out is that very often the decision makers as well as the project leaders continue to have a vision far from realistic of what is really the Open Source. The caricatural representation of the Open Source remains today too strongly anchored in mentalities, positioning too high the barrier of adoption in company. With this series of events, the audience is invited to discover the reality of this report and to see what occurs behind the curtain by asking the great communities Open Source to present their activities, their operating mode and their projects.

Public

These conferences are addressed to everyone! The large targets of MTC are however the following ones:

  • IT managers will undoubtedly be interested to learn more on the business models of the communities and see how well those can perfectly fit their requirements in term of software quality but also in term of support and maintenance.
  • Project leaders, directors or technical leaders as well as the architects will be able to discover components they have heard about or on the contrary that they were completely unaware of. This will improve their knowledge of course but will also possibly bring solutions to problems to which they are confronted.
  • Keen Open Source adopters which already know well the components of the invited community or 'concurrent' communities and who want to meet and discuss  with the people who wrote the code that they daily use, ask them questions, have more visibility about the roadmap,…

Event form

Each event takes the form of a series of conferences being spread out over one half-day at one day and enclosing themselves by a cocktail. The contents of this series of conferences are created by asking one or more communities around a topic, the interest being of course to make come the key people from this community. Each speaker is invited to initially present the community which it represents, which gives him an attraction, and what makes it live. Then the speaker present with a x-ray technique this time the solution on which it works.
